Spec summary
- Daedalus delivers 85.69 petaflops sustained and 115 petaflops peak.
- The €36m ($40.3m) project was co-funded 35% by EuroHPC JU and 65% by Greece 2.0.
- The system ranks 31st on the June 2026 Top500 and 23rd on the Green500.
- It uses more than 2,000 Nvidia H200 Grace Hopper Superchips in a 6.3MW data center.
- EuroHPC JU has now procured 12 supercomputers across Europe since 2018.

Greece now hosts one of the world's 50 most powerful supercomputers: the €36 million ($40.3m) Daedalus cluster, inaugurated this month at the Lavrion Technological Cultural Park near Athens by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and GRNET.
The system delivers 85.69 petaflops of sustained performance and a peak of 115 petaflops. Hewlett Packard Enterprise built it, using more than 2,000 Nvidia H200 Grace Hopper Superchips and direct liquid cooling.
On the June 2026 Top500 list, Daedalus placed 31st among the world's most powerful supercomputers. It ranked 23rd on the Green500 list of the most energy-efficient systems. The project was first announced in 2022 and went to tender in July 2024.
Where does the machine live?
Daedalus sits inside a new 6.3MW data center built within the 1,500 sqm (16,145 sq ft) building of the park's former Power Station, part of the National Technical University in Athens. A 2MW photovoltaic array at the Lavrion park feeds the facility for self-consumption, covering part of its energy demand.
The setting carried weight at the inauguration. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: "Greece's journey in technology, from lagging behind to being at the forefront, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence, has indeed been and continues to be extremely exciting. I would like to thank everyone who worked to make this project a reality."
He added: "I can see the emotion in many people's eyes, because I know how hard you all worked in order for us to reach this point today, where, as a country, we have one of the world's most powerful supercomputers, while at the same time having it installed in a building of such great historical and cultural significance."
Who paid for it?
The EuroHPC JU funded 35 percent of the €36 million cost. Greece's National Recovery and Resilience Plan 'Greece 2.0' covered the remaining 65 percent, financed through the European Union's NextGenerationEU instrument.
GRNET, the operator, works under Greece's Ministry of Digital Governance and drives the country's digital transformation strategy. It runs several other data centers: one near Filippiada, another at the University of Crete in Heraklion, and one inside the National Documentation Center of Greece.
What is the EuroHPC JU?
Launched in 2018 and headquartered in Luxembourg, EuroHPC JU unites the EU, 35 European countries and private partners to build a supercomputing ecosystem across Europe. Its mandate covers developing, deploying, extending and maintaining a secure supercomputing and quantum computing infrastructure, plus training HPC skills for European science and industry.
Daedalus is the 12th supercomputer the organization has procured, with systems distributed across the continent and dozens more in development or planning.
Greece now runs a Top50 system cooled by liquid and partly powered by its own solar array.
