Spec summary
- Google signed 3.6GW of power agreements with Constellation, split into a 20-year 890MW nuclear PPA and a 15-year 2.7GW PJM-wide deal.
- The nuclear PPA enables a $4.3 billion investment in equipment at 11 nuclear units in Illinois, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
- Constellation says the deal secures 4,400 existing jobs and creates 7,200 new jobs during the build-out.
- PJM expects up to 30GW of peak load growth through 2030, driven largely by AI data center demand.
- Constellation also agreed a 20-year, 190MW PPA with Amazon last month for its Maryland nuclear facility.

Google has signed agreements totaling 3.6GW with Constellation, the largest corporate power procurement move by the hyperscaler in the PJM service area to date.
The package has two components. First, a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) covering 890MW of nuclear energy, which will enable Constellation to invest $4.3 billion in new equipment and technology at 11 of its nuclear units in Illinois, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Second, a separate 15-year deal for 2.7GW of energy across the PJM service area, not tied to any specific plant.
The broader agreement exists, in the companies' words, to "ensure that Constellation's operating generation assets continue to deliver energy and capacity to the PJM market." Constellation runs both nuclear and natural gas plants.
What does the nuclear PPA deliver?
According to Constellation, the 890MW nuclear agreement will secure 4,400 existing jobs and create 7,200 new positions during the build-out of uprates at the affected reactors.
"We're committed to meeting our growth responsibly by actively investing in clean, reliable power that brings new capacity to our nation's grids," said Amanda Peterson Corio, global head of energy and power at Google. "Our agreement with Constellation to fund nuclear reactor uprates will strengthen the PJM grid, which serves 67 million people, all while protecting energy affordability and supporting local union jobs."
The deal adds to Google's growing nuclear procurement portfolio:
- A PPA with NextEra Energy, which intends to restart the 615MW Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Iowa to serve Google.
- An offtake agreement with the owners of the Loviisa nuclear power station in Finland.
Why is PJM capacity so contested?
The PJM market spans 13 states, including data center hotspots Virginia and Pennsylvania. The grid operator expects peak load growth of up to 30GW through 2030, driven largely by the AI data center boom.
Constellation has positioned itself to capture that demand by expanding capacity across its nuclear and gas fleet. Beyond the Google deal, the company is pursuing a restart of the Three Mile Island nuclear facility in New York to serve Microsoft, and last month agreed a 20-year PPA with Amazon that will add 190MW of new generating capacity to its nuclear facility in Maryland.
Constellation chairman, president and CEO Joe Dominguez framed the Google collaboration as a template for the industry. "Preserving and expanding the output of the existing nuclear fleet and developing new clean generation is critical to meeting our nation's growing energy needs while keeping costs affordable for homes and businesses," Dominguez said.
"This long-term clean energy collaboration with Google can serve as a model for how technology companies and the energy industry can work together to responsibly develop the digital economy and invest in our nation's energy infrastructure in a way that delivers grid-wide benefits for all, funded by private entities," he added.
