Bitdeer AI signs 10-year, 67MW AI cloud deal in Malaysia

Bitdeer AI's 10-year lease of the 67MW A901 campus lifts contracted capacity to 273.5MW — 78% of its 350MW goal for Q1 2028 — with delivery starting Q1 2027.

Spec summary

  1. Bitdeer AI signed a 10-year lease for the 67MW A901 data center in Malaysia, its third site in the country.
  2. The deal lifts global contracted capacity to 273.5MW, 78% of the 350MW target for Q1 2028.
  3. A901 capacity delivery runs from Q1 to Q2 2027, engineered for liquid-cooled Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems.
  4. The lease follows an agreement weeks earlier for A202, a 65.1MW facility in Johor Bahru.
  5. Bitdeer holds a non-binding LOI for a 30MW AI data center in Bhutan, expandable to 500MW.

Bitdeer AI has signed a 10-year data center services agreement in Malaysia covering the A901 campus, adding 67MW of capacity and lifting the company's global contracted footprint to 273.5MW across Malaysia, Norway and the United States. That figure puts the neocloud operator at 78 percent of its stated goal of 350MW by Q1 2028.

The company did not disclose the exact location of A901 or the identity of its operator. The site becomes Bitdeer's third in Malaysia, alongside existing facilities in Cyberjaya and Johor.

What is the delivery timeline?

Capacity at A901 is expected to start delivery in Q1 2027 and complete in Q2 of that year. The facility will be engineered for liquid-cooled Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems, the rack-scale platform that now anchors most high-density AI hosting builds.

The 10-year term gives Bitdeer a long-dated lease on a campus that comes online roughly two years before its capacity target date. The agreement follows a pattern of rapid sequential signings in the Malaysian market.

Who said what?

Michael G. Potter, chief financial officer of Bitdeer Technologies Group, tied the deal directly to regional demand conditions. "Demand for liquid-cooled, rack-scale AI capacity in Southeast Asia is running ahead of what the market can deliver, and customers are asking for it earlier and in larger blocks," he said.

Potter also framed A901 as an inventory play for customer negotiations: "A901 adds 67MW in a third Malaysian location, which widens the set of sites and delivery dates we can put in front of a customer."

How does this fit Bitdeer's expansion pattern?

The A901 lease comes just weeks after Bitdeer AI signed an agreement for A202, a 65.1MW facility in Johor Bahru. The two deals together add more than 130MW of Malaysian capacity in a short window.

The Malaysia buildout sits inside a broader geographic spread:

  • Malaysia: three sites — Cyberjaya, Johor and now A901 (67MW)
  • Johor Bahru: A202 at 65.1MW, signed weeks earlier
  • US and Norway: repurposed cryptomining facilities converted to AI hosting, including sites in Washington and Tennessee
  • Bhutan: a non-binding letter of intent for an AI data center in Gelephu Mindfulness City, targeting an initial 30MW of renewable hydro- and solar-powered capacity, with a stated expansion pathway to 500MW

Why is a cryptominer building AI capacity?

Bitdeer started as a cryptomining company and has progressively pivoted toward data centers and cloud services. The company is converting mining facilities in Washington, Tennessee and Norway into AI hosting sites — a path several former miners have taken, since existing power infrastructure shortens time-to-capacity for AI workloads.

The pivot now spans three continents. Malaysia anchors the Southeast Asian position, where, according to Potter, demand for liquid-cooled rack-scale capacity outstrips supply. Norway and the US provide the converted mining assets.

What does the math look like?

The capacity arithmetic defines the story. Before A901, Bitdeer's contracted portfolio stood at approximately 206.5MW. The new lease adds 67MW, taking the total to 273.5MW.

That leaves a gap of 76.5MW to reach the 350MW target set for Q1 2028. A901's delivery window — Q1 to Q2 2027 — provides buffer ahead of that deadline, as does the 65.1MW A202 facility signed weeks earlier, provided both sites deliver on schedule.

The Bhutan letter of intent, if it converts to a binding agreement, would cover the remaining gap on its own: the initial 30MW phase alone would bring the portfolio past the 350MW mark once delivered.

What remains undisclosed?

Neither the location nor the operator of A901 has been made public. The financial terms of the 10-year lease — rate, escalation structure, or total contract value — also remain undisclosed, as do the specific customers, if any, already committed to capacity at the site.

Bitdeer has also not detailed power sourcing for A901 or its expected PUE, details that typically accompany liquid-cooled GB300 NVL72 deployments. The company's next capacity announcement will indicate whether the 350MW target closes ahead of the Q1 2028 deadline.
