Spec summary
- Lisa Su visits Korea on October 8, 2026, her first trip since March 2026, for an AI company roundtable.
- Scheduled and proposed meetings include NPU makers FuriosaAI, Rebellions, DeepX, and Mobilint, startup Upstage, Deputy PM Kyunghoon Bae, and AI strategy committee vice chair Ha Jungwoo.
- The visit follows a July 2026 MOU between the Science and ICT Ministry and AMD on building an AI semiconductor ecosystem, aimed at reducing Korean firms' dependence on Nvidia.

Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD, will visit Korea on October 8 to attend a roundtable with domestic AI companies, according to government and IT industry sources cited on September 30. The trip marks her first return to the country in seven months, following a March 2026 visit, and shifts the focus toward concrete discussions on AI semiconductor cooperation.
The itinerary under preparation is extensive. Organizers are arranging meetings between Su and the CEOs of leading Korean neural processing unit (NPU) firms, including FuriosaAI, Rebellions, DeepX, and Mobilint. Talks are also underway to schedule sessions with major Korean startups such as Upstage.
On the government side, Su will meet Kyunghoon Bae, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, and Ha Jungwoo, Vice Chair of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee. Those meetings are scheduled before and after the roundtable.
Supply Chain Logic
Su's objective is public-private cooperation that lets Korean companies reduce their dependence on Nvidia while generating synergy through AMD's AI ecosystem. The mechanism under discussion: link AMD's CPUs and GPUs with Korean-made NPUs to expand AI semiconductor supply chain cooperation. She also plans to work with the Korean government on win-win strategies for strengthening global AI competitiveness and promoting growth of the domestic AI ecosystem.
The October visit builds on an existing framework. In July 2026, the Ministry of Science and ICT and AMD signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on building an AI semiconductor ecosystem.
Samsung Contacts
Su is also reportedly arranging meetings with leaders of major domestic companies, including Samsung Electronics. Her March 2026 visit set a precedent: she met Lee Jae-yong, Executive Chairman of Samsung Electronics, at Seungjiwon, and held a separate meeting with Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and President who heads the Device Solutions (DS) Division.
An official from one NPU company described the state of preparations: "We are finalizing the detailed schedule for next month's meeting with Su. This will be part of Su's efforts to strengthen cooperation not only with the government but also with Korean NPU companies and promising startups."
