- Unveiled at Data Center World Asia; supports three generations of IT hardware

ZTE has launched an integrated data center module rated for rack densities from 20kW to 60kW, with a peak of 250kW per rack. The company unveiled the ZXEDC M8000 Intelligent Computing Micro-Module at Data Center World Asia, positioning it squarely at AI workloads.
The pitch to operators is simple: everything arrives in one package. ZTE said the M8000 combines an enclosed cold aisle, liquid-cooled racks, network racks, a coldplate liquid-cooling CDU, secondary-side piping, high-voltage DC power, intelligent busbars, air walls, monitoring, lighting, cabling, and fire linkage. It supports general-purpose and AI hybrid deployments in the same footprint.
What does the rack design change for operators?
Racks are decoupled from the frame, and ZTE says operators can retrofit on-site from air to liquid cooling later. That matters for anyone building capacity ahead of demand — you don't have to bet the whole facility on liquid cooling from day one.
The cooling architecture uses a shared air-and-liquid source, letting operators adjust the ratio between the two as workload profiles shift.
On efficiency, ZTE claims the system can reach a PUE as low as 1.15 in all regions through free cooling. For context, that's roughly a quarter of the cooling overhead of a legacy facility running at PUE 1.6 — for every megawatt of IT load, the M8000 architecture would spend about 150kW on facilities instead of 600kW.
The 800V HVDC system, paired with intelligent busbars for in-row power distribution, is rated at up to 98 percent power supply efficiency. That means roughly 2 percent of supplied power is lost before it reaches IT hardware.
First with system-level leak certification
ZTE says the M8000 is the first liquid cooling solution to receive UL system-level leak-proof certification — a relevant data point for operators whose insurers and risk teams scrutinize liquid near live electronics.
The company also claims one architecture can support three generations of IT hardware upgrades. In practice, that reduces the need for large-scale retrofits as capacity grows, which is where much of the real cost of AI-era data center expansion sits.
Not ZTE's first modular move
ZTE launched a similar modular unit last year, the AIDC Prefabricated Container Solution. According to the company, that containerized offering also operates at a PUE of 1.15, using a chilled water wind wall, cold and hot aisle separation, and cold plate liquid cooling with free cooling.
The M8000 extends that line from containerized deployments into fixed micro-module form.
A telecoms vendor pushing deeper into compute
ZTE is typically known for telecoms, including 5G. In recent months it has partnered with U Mobile, Italy's EOLO, and SLT-Mobitel on 5G network upgrades across various locations.
Last month, the vendor completed a proof-of-concept in Malaysia of a portable, fully off-grid 5G network site powered entirely by 100 percent green energy. The data center push signals where ZTE sees the next wave of operator spending landing — and it's the same place everyone else is looking: power-dense AI compute.
