Spec summary

  1. Traysar launched Terminus, a truck-mounted boring platform for deploying infrastructure underground
  2. Armada's modular data centers reach up to 10MW with the Orion model; Leviathan offers 1.77MW
  3. The partners plan a distributed Sovereign AI Grid in which no workload depends on a single site

Subterranean defense technology company Traysar has partnered with Edge computing specialist Armada to deploy sovereign AI compute capacity underground for US mission-critical workloads.

The partnership centers on Terminus, a new truck-mounted boring platform Traysar launched to enable infrastructure deployment beneath the surface. Traysar will contribute its underground systems expertise, while Armada supplies its modular data centers. The two companies plan to explore integrated underground solutions supporting secure AI processing, command and control, communications, and other mission-critical workloads for the US.

According to the companies, distributed underground deployments can scale into what they call a Sovereign AI Grid, an architecture in which workloads never depend on a single site. The concept targets resilience: if one node is compromised or loses power, processing continues elsewhere.

"The next generation of critical infrastructure cannot remain exposed. Terminus transforms the Earth's crust into a protective layer for the systems America depends on most. By combining Traysar's ability to create and operate in underground environments with Armada's ability to deploy powerful AI infrastructure virtually anywhere, we are building a new standard for resilient compute—concealed, hardened, and ready to operate when surface infrastructure cannot," said Yadin Soffer, co-founder and CEO of Traysar.

Armada's modular line-up

Armada builds modular Edge data centers that operators can place wherever power is available. US military departments have already deployed the company's offerings, including the US Navy during the UNITAS exercise.

The product line spans multiple capacity classes. Armada recently launched Orion, a 10MW model and its largest modular data center to date. The second-largest offering, Leviathan, delivers 1.77MW of compute capacity. These modules form the hardware basis Armada brings to the underground partnership.

"The future of AI infrastructure is distributed, sovereign, and resilient. The Sovereign AI Grid is built so that no critical workload depends on a single site. Terminus adds a new dimension. Together, we can put a fully sovereign, air-gapped AI node beneath the surface, close to the mission it supports, and keep it running when everything above ground cannot," said Dan Wright, co-founder and CEO of Armada.

Hardened, distributed, air-gapped

The partnership pairs two distinct capabilities. Traysar handles creation and operation of underground environments through Terminus, while Armada handles rapid deployment of AI infrastructure in austere locations. The combined offering positions a fully sovereign, air-gapped AI node beneath the surface, close to the mission it supports.

The companies frame the effort as a response to exposure risks facing surface infrastructure. Concealment and physical hardening through burial, combined with geographic distribution across multiple nodes, form the core of the resilience argument.

Neither company disclosed a deployment timeline, target capacity figures, or specific customer commitments for the joint offering.
