Spec summary
- Global Switch will host one of the biggest Nvidia Blackwell deployments in Europe at its Paris data center
- The cluster will be mostly liquid-cooled and deployed in an Nvidia DGX-ready facility
- The Paris campus is 100 percent powered by renewable energy
- A heat-offtake agreement will supply waste heat to Levallois-Perret from 2027, with plans to replicate it in Clichy
- A data center at the site caught fire in 2023 after a cooling water pump failure flooded the battery room
Global Switch will host one of the largest Nvidia Blackwell deployments in Europe at its Paris data center, the company has announced. The cluster will be predominantly liquid-cooled and will run inside Global Switch's Nvidia DGX-ready facility in the French capital.
The operator did not disclose the scale of the deployment in specific terms, stating only that it will rank among the biggest Blackwell rollouts on the continent. It also declined to identify the end user of the cluster.
What does the deployment involve?
The hardware will sit within Global Switch's Nvidia DGX-ready data center in Paris. A facility certified as DGX-ready meets Nvidia's requirements for hosting its high-end AI systems, covering power density, cooling and connectivity. Liquid cooling will carry most of the thermal load for the new cluster — a necessary approach for Blackwell-generation hardware, which draws far more power per rack than air-cooled designs can comfortably handle.
AI and high-performance compute workloads place three demands on a facility, according to Nicolas Duhamel, president at Global Switch France. "AI and high-performance compute customers require significant power, advanced cooling optionality and dense, resilient connectivity," he said.
Duhamel framed the win as proof of the operator's positioning. "This deployment demonstrates the strength of Global Switch as a platform for the next generation of AI businesses, powering the digital economies of the future," he said. "It also underlines the role that established, highly connected data centers can play in accelerating AI innovation at scale and in supporting France's sovereign AI ambitions."
How sustainable is the Paris campus?
Global Switch's Paris campus runs entirely on renewable energy. It is also set to enter a heat-offtake agreement under which waste heat from the facility will warm the city of Levallois-Perret starting in 2027. The company plans to replicate the arrangement in the neighboring city of Clichy.
Waste-heat reuse has become a common lever for European operators seeking regulatory approval and municipal support for energy-intensive AI buildouts. For a large liquid-cooled cluster, heat recovery is technically straightforward: liquid loops deliver heat at temperatures high enough to feed district heating networks.
What is the site's track record?
The Paris campus is not without incident history. In 2023, a data center at the site suffered a fire after a water pump in the cooling system failed, leaking water into the battery room.
Google is a known customer at the campus, making it one of the most prominent tenants alongside the incoming Blackwell deployment.
Why does the deal matter for the French market?
The announcement strengthens Paris's position in the European AI infrastructure race. France has pushed sovereign AI capability as a policy priority, and Duhamel's reference to the country's "sovereign AI ambitions" signals that the deployment aligns with that agenda — although Global Switch has not confirmed whether the end user is French.
Key open questions remain:
- The exact number of Blackwell racks or GPUs to be installed
- The identity of the end customer
- The deployment timeline
- The total power capacity the cluster will draw
For Global Switch, the deal validates its investment in DGX-ready certification and liquid-cooling infrastructure. For the broader market, it adds another large-scale Blackwell site to the European map as demand for Nvidia's latest accelerator generation continues to outstrip supply.
