- Blackstone leads an $18 billion junior tranche, committing $9 billion itself; banks are preparing syndication letters for a $42 billion senior-secured tranche.
- Anthropic's IPO filing shows a Broadcom loan of up to $42 billion covering roughly one-third of its $125.2 billion, five-year TPU lease commitment.
- Reuters reports Anthropic is expected to become Broadcom's largest chip-design customer next year.
- Broadcom's AI financing platform with Apollo and Blackstone targets more than 20 gigawatts of capacity through 2028 and opened with a $35 billion transaction.
A Wall Street syndicate has reportedly begun assembling $60 billion in fresh financing for AI chips and infrastructure, with Broadcom and Anthropic as the central counterparties.
According to Bloomberg, banks are preparing to send syndication letters for a $42 billion Class A senior-secured tranche. Blackstone (BX) is leading an $18 billion Class B junior-debt tranche and plans to commit $9 billion through various funds, syndicating the remainder.
The financing has been taking shape for weeks and would help companies including Anthropic secure chips and other AI infrastructure. Broadcom wants to sell more chips and data-center equipment; AI developers need growing amounts of compute.
What does Anthropic's IPO filing reveal?
Reuters reported Thursday that Anthropic's IPO filing shows Broadcom agreed to lend the AI company up to $42 billion to finance infrastructure spending.
The loan ties directly to Anthropic's compute commitments. Key figures from the filing:
- $125.2 billion: Anthropic's five-year commitment to lease tensor processing unit (TPU) computing capacity.
- $42 billion: Broadcom's lending facility, covering roughly one-third of that lease commitment.
- Next year: when Anthropic is expected to become Broadcom's largest chip-design customer, per Reuters.
The filing places a hard number on the scale of vendor financing now underpinning frontier-model compute.
How deep is the Broadcom-Anthropic relationship?
Anthropic said in April that it expanded its partnership with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity beginning in 2027. The compute is intended to power its Claude models as customer demand grows.
In June, Broadcom launched an AI infrastructure financing platform together with Apollo and Blackstone. The platform is designed to enable more than 20 gigawatts of capacity using Broadcom's custom XPUs and networking technology through 2028.
It began with a $35 billion transaction supporting more than 1 gigawatt of Anthropic capacity.
The reported $60 billion package extends that structure. Debt financing has been expanding beyond data centers into chips and servers, with hundreds of billions of dollars already raised for the broader AI infrastructure buildout.
How is AVGO stock reacting?
Broadcom shares have fallen around 1% so far this year, sharply lagging the broader semiconductor complex.
Two ETFs holding AVGO stock paint the contrast:
- Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT): up more than 34% over the same period.
- Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXQ): up more than 74%.
On Stocktwits, retail investor sentiment around AVGO remained in 'bearish' territory.
The gap between Broadcom's financing momentum and its share performance sets up the question investors will watch as the syndication letters go out: whether the $60 billion package converts into the chip and equipment sales the structure is built to deliver.
