- The fund acquired Flow Control, Dresser Utility Solutions and DarkVision.

- The Google JV, Project Braid, targets 500MW of capacity online in 2027.

Blackstone has closed its latest energy transition fund at $8.7 billion. The figure is 50 percent higher than the previous vehicle in the series. The fund, Blackstone Energy Transition Partners V (BETP V), is oversubscribed and will back companies delivering low-carbon energy at scale.
BETP V began its investment period in June. It has already funded three platform companies. The list includes Kindle Energy, an independent power producer, Fisterra, a Spanish energy transition firm, and Viridon, a private electric transmission utility.
Which data center suppliers did the fund buy?
The fund has also acquired three companies working on energy efficiency and resiliency:
- Flow Control — a US provider of flow control solutions and components for liquid cooling in data centers.
- Dresser Utility Solutions — a US supplier of measurement and control products, including meters, regulators and pressure relief valves, plus infrastructure repair products for gas and water utilities.
- DarkVision — a Canadian provider of technology-enabled asset inspection services.
The cooling and measurement acquisitions tie the fund directly to data center infrastructure. That is consistent with Blackstone's wider positioning in the sector.
What does the close mean for investors?
David Foley, global head of Blackstone Energy Transition, framed the raise around electricity demand. "We believe there is a generational opportunity for experienced investors in the energy transition to provide solutions to the challenges posed by growing demand for electricity," Foley said.
He added that BETP provides "flexible, patient equity capital to increase manufacturing capacity, recruit and train skilled labor, and construct new critical energy infrastructure assets." The stated aim is to build portfolio companies to scale, create jobs and generate lasting value for investors.
Blackstone also reported that it has monetized several mature investments from predecessor funds. These exits include the sale of US battery storage firm Aypa Power, the sale of a majority stake in Sabre Industries — a manufacturer of engineered critical infrastructure for power utilities, telecom and data centers — and the completed IPO of Legence, a mechanical contracting and engineering services firm serving mission-critical data center markets.
How does this fit Blackstone's data center strategy?
The close extends a run of data center-focused deals in 2026. In May, Blackstone completed an IPO of its data center real estate investment trust. It also announced a $5.34 billion investment into US natural gas firm Williams to fund five behind-the-meter projects, which will serve growing data center power demand in North America.
Not every bet has run to schedule. In September, reports said Blackstone's data center joint venture with Google had hit delays. The JV, known internally as Project Braid, was formed in May. It plans a new cloud platform offering Google's Tensor Processing Units. Blackstone committed $5 billion in equity capital from its funds, with a target of bringing 500MW of capacity online in 2027 and expanding later.
What does this change for the market? It puts a large, patient pool of equity capital behind the supply chain — generation, transmission, cooling and measurement — at a moment when data center power demand keeps rising.
