ASML Holding, the Dutch monopoly supplier of advanced lithography machines, has projected fourth-quarter sales above analyst expectations on the strength of AI chip demand.

The Veldhoven-based company issued the higher guidance in its latest update. The figure sits above the trimmed consensus range that analysts had set earlier in the year. The driver, ASML said, is order intake for tools used in the production of AI accelerators and other advanced semiconductors.

ASML holds a near-monopoly position in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems. These machines are the most expensive single pieces of equipment in a modern semiconductor fab. Every leading-edge processor made today has passed through at least one ASML EUV tool. The list price for the highest-end EUV system runs into the low hundreds of millions of euros before service contracts.

What does the sales beat change for chipmakers?

The new forecast shows that capital expenditure at the foundry level remains open. When customers order more lithography systems, they commit to wafer capacity that comes online 12 to 24 months later. A beat therefore reads as a forward signal of fab construction budgets, not just current throughput.

For ASML's stock, the print removes one negative scenario. Several analysts had argued through the year that AI demand had peaked. The new guide pushes back against that case. It suggests training and inference build-outs at hyperscalers are still drawing down new equipment orders.

For ASML's customer base, the signal matters as well. Foundry customers rely on multi-year tool delivery schedules. A stronger outlook at ASML implies those delivery slots have not been cancelled, which removes near-term uncertainty for fab planners.

Why AI chips pull equipment orders

AI accelerators and custom silicon programs at cloud providers are produced on the most advanced process nodes. Only EUV-class lithography can pattern those nodes economically at volume. As cloud providers add capacity, orders flow up the chain to ASML's order book. The pattern tracks investments at TSMC, Samsung Foundry and Intel Foundry Services, three customers that account for the bulk of ASML's EUV system volume.

For the broader equipment complex, the beat supports volumes at ASML's European and Asian supplier base. Suppliers of precision optics, mechatronics and advanced motion stages all feed into ASML's final assembly lines. Continued order flow at the top keeps the chain intact.

What investors will watch next

The full Q4 sales figure, the book-to-bill ratio and net bookings will be published with the company's quarterly results. The new guidance shifts analyst models upward for revenue and operating margin. It also leaves room for further upgrades if book-to-bill stays above parity through 2025.

Margin will draw particular attention. ASML's EUV systems carry high gross margins, and a richer product mix lifts the company-wide figure. Investors will compare the new guide against the prior operating-margin trajectory.

The read-through for the wider semiconductor capital equipment sector — including Tokyo Electron, KLA and Applied Materials — stays constructive. ASML's intake has historically led the broader equipment cycle by two to four quarters. A beat at the top of the chain tends to coincide with stable orders across the rest of the complex.

ASML's pricing power and order timing remain the operative variables for the next quarter.
